Samarkand and Bukhara

Friday, September 29th, 2006

I have uploaded two new panoramas of both the Registan in Samarkand [1] and the Mir-i-Arab Medressa in Bukhara [2] to my photo album. I have taken the picture of the Registan from the top of the right minaret of the Ulughbek Medressa.

You might want to read some background information on these impressive buildings in Uzbekistan on Wikipedia [1] [2].

Update: I have added a panorama of Khiva.

WWDC

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Yes, I did again get an invitation from Apple to attend the WWDC, but I couldn’t attend this year due to my travels in Turkestan (Central Asia). Still, I did follow the announcements for sure and I am quite annoyed by the (so far) announced feature set of upcoming Leopard. I am however happy to note there will at last be garbage collection added to the Objective-C language and at least some of the long-outstanding, most-often used refactoring tools will be added to the XCode IDE. I am eager to test this out – I don’t know yet how I’ll manage to get a copy of the 10.5 WWDC build in my hands here (Does anyone know if the developer seed is sent out to ADC Student Members?).

Hospitality Club

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

While being in Moscow, we make great use of the network of people from hospitality club as accomodation tends to be very expensive here. Consider to join this ‘club’, as it is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people either if you want to host members at your own place or being a guest when abroad! My own profile can be found here (login required).

Does anyone know why the russian cellular services provider has a bizarre egg in its logo? Nobody has a good explanation here besides that russians do like to eat eggs 😉
